Eyelid Lift Q & A

What Is Blepharoplasty?

Blepharoplasty, commonly referred to as eyelid surgery, is a surgical technique used to correct eyelid sagging or drooping. This surgery is often done to correct some of the most obvious signs of aging, but it may be done for medical reasons as well. For example, patients with vision concerns because of sagging eyelids find this procedure especially beneficial. Eyelid surgery lifts and tightens the skin around the eye, treating both the upper and lower lids. The skin of the forehead and neck might also be incorporated during eyelid surgery.

Who Is a Good Candidate for Blepharoplasty?

Most healthy adults with drooping eyelids are good candidates for eyelid surgery. Many people who are dissatisfied with the appearance of their sagging skin will find that this is an excellent way to help them look younger and more alert. In some cases, people with sagging eyelids opt for blepharoplasty surgery to remove the extra skin and improve their vision.

What Happens After Surgery?

Eyelid surgery is often performed as an outpatient procedure, and it is either performed at a surgeon’s office or an outpatient surgical facility. Patients are usually free to return home once the procedure is finished and they’ve recovered from any sedation, although it is recommended to organize ride home with a friend or family member following sedation. Infrequently, the procedure is done in a hospital, and patients are asked to spend a night under observation. An operation performed on the upper lid provides lasting improvements although some patients request additional eyelid lifts later in life. Lower eyelid operations rarely need to be done a second time. Eyes will still age naturally though this operation should take care of any sagging or drooping concerns. If they do start to droop again following the operation, a forehead or brow lift can be helpful.
