Blepharoplasty Q & A

What is Blepharoplasty?

Blepharoplasty refers to eyelid surgery. It is a procedure designed to remove excess skin and fat from the upper and lower eyelids. Drooping of the upper eyelid is called ptosis. It occurs when the eyelid muscle weakens. The condition interferes with peripheral vision and is either congenital or acquired. The condition is corrected by surgery.

How is Blepharoplasty performed?

When performing surgery, Dr. Baskin uses a precise carbon dioxide laser. In the upper eyelid, a fine incision is made in the eyelid crease allowing for excess skin and fat to be removed. In lower eyelid, surgery the incision is placed inside the lower eyelid, eliminating a visible scar. In certain instances, Dr. Baskin repositions lower eyelid fat to fill hollow areas that occur with aging.

How will I look after the procedure?

Within a matter of days, swelling will subside and your eyes will begin to look rested, vibrant and rejuvenated.

Is there anything I should be concerned about?

As with any surgical procedure, the superior candidates are those in good health and those best educated about the treatment.

What about my wrinkles and crow's feet?

While blepharoplasty removes extra skin and fat, fine lines and crow's feet can be removed using other procedures such as Botox ®, laser resurfacing and skin peeling.

What are the benefits of Thermage ®?

Eye Thermage® uses a patented deep heating technology which tightens eyelid skin, reduces eyelid hooding and softens fine lines and crow's feet. This single treatment has no downtime with immediate recovery.
